Tales of a third Grade Classroom: Fan Mail for Miss Melanie!

Hi, again!

After a very busy holiday season, I'm finally getting the chance to really sit down and read some of my latest FAN MAIL! I LOVE getting post cards from Mr. H's class... it is one of my favorite things in the world! It makes me sad that it has taken me so much time to get to this stack of important letters, so please excuse me while I read.

[Please wait while Miss Melanie reads her letters.]

*TICK, TOCK, TICK, TOCK...*

[Miss Melanie is now finished reading her letters.]

WOW! What a great batch of postcards I have here! Here are some of the postcards I got from the kids:

Unfortunately, I can't post all of the postcards here on the blog, but I really wish I could! They are all wonderful! Mr. H's Class of 2013 seems to be a super smart bunch... I can't wait to meet them next year! And each student wants to take Little Raindrop with them on an adventure... That is SO COOL! In fact, that gives me an idea. I wonder if Little Raindrop would like to go on an adventure with me? I think I'm going to ask him RIGHT NOW!

Talk to you later, kids!

Tales of a Third Grade Classroom: POP Cards and Hurricane Sandy

Hi, Readers!

I'm sure there aren't many of you that has not yet heard of the hurricane named Sandy that visited the Carribbean and the MidAtlantic and Northeast United States this year... and right before Halloween, too. This storm was HUGE and it hit the land hard. Lots of people had homes damaged, flooded or even completely lost them. It was so bad, that there are people right now still struggling to get their lives back together.

Thankfully, there are a lot of amazing helpers willing to lend a hand and make a difference in these people's lives!

One of the things Mr. H's class did to help was to write POP Cards! POP cards are Pass On Postcards, written to be shared and passed along to other friends and students. It's a great way for students to reach out and make some new pen pals, and to send along some much needed support.

Here are a few of the students' POP cards:

And no matter what happens in the world around you, don't lose heart! Remember this quote from Mister Rogers:

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster,’ I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers - so many caring people in this world.” — Mister Rogers

So stay strong, and keep on helping others!

It sure was a great way to end our rainy October! And I LOVE rain! It was the best month EVER! What did all you scurvy lads and lassies don for Halloween this year? I wonder what I should dress up as next year?

Don't be a landlubber- be a land LOVER and keep that trash off the ground!

Around the World with Little Raindrop: My Flight with a Pilot!

Hi There, Little Water Heroes!

I'm so excited to tell you about the time I helped to fly a REAL AIRPLANE next to a REAL PILOT!

I was invited by Captain Horlings to join him in the cockpit of the plane he was flying from Pensacola to Washington, D.C.

This is me, (Little Raindrop) and the Captain!
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com
He showed me how to tell how much fuel we had on board (which was 8,200 pounds of fuel!), how much the plane's takeoff weight was (48,736 pounds), and all the neat buttons and switches he uses to pilot the plane! Then the Captain put a pair of headphones on my head...

PERFECT fit!
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

and I GOT TO FLY THE PLANE!!! Can you believe it?!??

Whoopee, I'm on top of the world!
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

We flew 775 nautical miles, and it took us 2 hours and 12 minutes to fly across Montgomery, AL and over Spartanburg, SC and above Greensboro, NC... and even over Richmond, VA!

It was TOTALLY cool and I had so much fun! I think I might want to be a pilot when I grow up! What do YOU want to be when you grow up?

In a while, crocodile!

Around the World with Little Raindrop: Pensacola, Florida

Hey there, kids!

This summer, I dropped like a raindrop down on Mr. H while he visited family in Pensacola, FL! He was nice enough to take me along on the rest of his vacation, and here are some of the neat things we did...

I got to go inside Geronimo's prison cell at Fort Pickens!
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

Yoo hoo! I'm here, can you find me?
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

I tried to shoot back into the sky from a cannon but it didn't work!Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

Mr. H. and I learned how big sea turtles can get
in real life!
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

So we went looking for sea turtle
nesting sites...
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

None here...
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

Not here, either!
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

Finally, we found a sea turtle nesting site!
Don't touch!
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

Ahh! That was some hard work! Time for some rest and
relaxation!
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

Hey, little buddy, come sit here next to me!
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

Good thing drool is made of water!
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

And after a nice long walk on the beach...
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

...it was time to evaporate and head back home!
Image ©2012 LittleRaindropsStory.com

It was a great visit, and I had loads of fun! I can't wait to go back to Florida again someday! Where is YOUR favorite place to go on vacation?

Later, gator!
